Holiday at Newyork

Christmas in New York is like experiencing a winter wonderland! Every street, every corner of New York looks so festive and fresh as snow. Little did I know about it, I planned my visit to New York and I can say, I was awestruck! New York has the some of the amazing Christmas lights displays.

Twinkling lights are everywhere, huge Christmas trees lightened with festive décor, hints of snow often, ice rinks filled with people performing their best moves and people in snug clothes all mark the presence of Santa coming. Every thing has the warmth of hot cocoa with marshmallows. From Macy’s to Rolf’s German restaurant to Rockefeller center, there’s not a place without Christmas cheer and needless to say Christmas lights!

Here are some of the best places to witness the holiday cheer and experience the best of Christmas lights!

Macy’s in the fifth avenue is a sight to watch. The “Believe” sign on the top of the building makes you wanna believe in magic once again. Windows are decked with displays of Christmas like something right out of a fairytale. Miniature trains, miniature displays of dolls in every window is a sight to behold. Once you enter the Macy’s, it is all decked with beautiful decor.

My favorite thing to do is to see the Empire State Building from one of the wall décor in front of Macy’s.

Brookfield place:

Filled with exotic shops and a beautiful light display, Brookfield place also has a perfect ice rink on the waterfront. The entrance of Brookfield places entices you with a cluster of Christmas trees.

At the winter garden, a beautiful lantern display with changing colors is something you shouldn’t miss. For each wish, the lantern lights up and changes its color.Once you walkout to the riverfront, there is an ice rink with people of all ages enjoying their time of life. Not to mention, trees are adorned with dangling lights adding much more Christmas feel to the place.

Radio city & Avenue of the Americas:

The light display at the radio city is unique and amazing.
One can experience the downtown New York buzz in this place. Streets filled with people, the yellow taxis rapidly moving across, luxury imitation items sold on the floors, everything about this place gives absolute feel of New York.

The lights and the fountain at the Radio city fills you with Christmas cheer. Grab any street food and enjoy the walk around radio city.

Rockefeller center:

The classic Rockefeller center Christmas tree. One of the most renowned Christmas tree in the entire nation. It is a know fact that Christmas spirit has officially started once the Rockefeller Christmas tree is up. A real life-sized Norwegian tree is up for display and decked with amazing lights. Right in front of the Rockefeller Christmas tree is the ice rink. Watching the tree and skating on the ice rink is a New York kinda Christmas. Everyone must have watched this experience in a movie. Although, the waiting lines are huge, it is definitely worth the wait.

Just a quick snack tip!
On the fifth avenue, right near the radio city is the America’s famous Magnolia bakery.

Grab the famous banana pudding at Magnolia bakery and stand in the line for Rockefeller center. Order online and collect the pudding otherwise you might end up in line at magnolia. Wait in the Rockefeller line while munching on your yummy banana pudding.
Thank me later!

Saks fifth avenue:

Right in front of the Rockefeller center is the famous Saks Fifth Avenue. The store got its name from its famous location in New York. The whole Saks building is covered with an entire castle shaped Christmas lights. It is a full music and light show for whole 5Minutes. The holiday light show starts at dusk and plays every 15minutes.

It’s an absolute delight to witness the holiday light show. One of my favorite thing during Christmas.

Pulitzer fountain:

Right in front of the Central Park is Pulitzer fountain. The fountain is decorated in huge Christmas ornaments of lights.

It’s definitely worth to walk along the fountain and take few pictures for the gram.

Dyker Heights:

The well-known neighborhood to witness over-the-top Christmas house decorations is Dyker heights! Every single house in the area is decorated with life-sized Christmas lights and oversized ornaments ranging from sleighs to Santa’s.

Walking around the blocks fills you with Christmas joy and happiness.

Hudson Yards: The best place to see Lights

Although the latest formed attraction in the city, I can definitely say it has the best Christmas lights in whole of New York.
Hudson yards hosts the Vessel, an architectural wonder in itself becomes more festive during the holidays. The surrounding area of this marvel is lightened up with million dwindling lights and glowing hot air balloons. Each inch of the place turns into a golden wonder by the start of evening and is a must visit place in New York City to witness the grandeur of Christmas lights.

The mall called the Edge is also lightened up with gazillion lights and hot air balloons. I call this place a “golden dream”. One has to go and witness this ethereal wonder. Also, plan a visit to the rooftop at The Edge. It has breathtaking views of the New York City.

If you have made it till here, I am throwing you an additional spot to visit. The great Rolf’s German restaurant is a place you must add to the list. Entire restaurant is filled with tons of Christmas ornaments. It is just other-worldly. Do check out their page on insta to know how mesmerizing the whole area is.
